individualized health check-up

We offer a thorough individualized health check-up that is carried out by highly qualified and trained physicians. During the examination the whole body is checked, including blood sample, ECG, ultrasound,… The health-up can be individualized based on your personal health history, an endured covid-19 infection and your individual needs and wishes.

The health check-up can of course be combined with a Covid-19 vaccination.

flu and corona vaccination

Vaccinations are some of the most effective methods to protect you from a severe disease progression. In Germany you have access to approved vaccinations from established pharmaceutical companies.

The vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus is the most effective method to protect you from a severe COVID-19 disease progression. The risk from SAR-CoV-2 differs depending on age and pre-existing condition. Especially insufficiently treated pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, kidney, liver, lung or heart disease increase the risk of a severe course. The following vaccines are approved and available in Germany: Comirnaty® from BioNTech/Pfizer, Spikevax® from Moderna, COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen® from Johnson & Johnson, and Vaxzevria® from AstraZeneca. Comirnaty® and Spikevax® are also available for adolescents starting at the age of 12 years.

A flu vaccination is recommended above all for certain groups of people, namely for all persons over 60 years of age, for all pregnant women from the 2nd trimester onwards, for persons with an increased health risk due to a basic illness, for residents of old people’s -or nursing homes and for persons who, as a possible source of infection, could endanger persons living in the same household or persons at risk (see above). (1)
Some of these people also belong to the risk groups in which the COVID disease caused by the coronavirus can take a severe course.
Of course a flu vaccination does not protect against the corona virus, but at least it can reduce the risk of getting both diseases – in the worst case at the same time.
In addition, the flu vaccination also relieves the burden on the health care system, because the more people are vaccinated, the less they have to be treated in hospital or in a doctor’s practice. With the flu, we at least have the luxury of being able to do something, whereas with Corona we are still dependent on accepting restrictive measures.

covid-19

The coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has spread rapidly all over the world, millions people have been infected, whereby the number of unreported cases is likely to be significantly higher. Despite the fact that in the meantime vaccines have been developed (mRNA and vector vaccines), COVID still poses a threat to the world and the grade of efficacy of the vaccines remain uncertain as there have been a number of breakthrough infections and the first countries are already starting with a third booster shot- not knowing if this would really stop the disease from spreading.

There are still many uncertainties regarding the effects the virus has on the body, and almost daily we receive new research results and case reports about possible long-term consequences and the infestation of organs other than the lungs.
The virus, which is closely related to the pathogen causing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), initially triggered severe pneumonia, but it is increasingly clear that the virus can cause damage throughout the body, including, for example, the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, intestines and brain (2).
Therefore, a health check is very important especially now, as insufficiently treated pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, kidney, liver, lung or especially heart disease massively increase the risk of a severe course of a Covid-19 infection.
During the examination the whole body is checked, including blood sample, ECG, ultrasound. The checklist gives you an overview of the examinations.

The classic symptoms of a COVID disease are now quite well known and range from completely asymptomatic courses to a mild symptomatology with breathing difficulties, loss of smell/ and taste as well as flu-like symptoms to the most severe respiratory courses with the need for ventilation.

In addition, longer-term symptoms occur in about 10-20% of patients and, interestingly, regardless of the severity of the disease. Thus, it is not necessarily the ventilated patient who show late complications (that must also be distinguished from the problems directly linked to ventilation), but also patients with only mild symptoms can be impaired in the longer term in rare cases. Incidentally, this is not specific to the COVID disease, but also occurs regularly with other viral diseases, e.g. influenza.

The most common complaints after a survived Corona infection include:

  • disturbances in the sense of smell and taste
  • persistent fatigue and tiredness
  • respiratory problems and
  • joint pain

Other sequelae after corona

Those who have recovered also complain of depression, unclear skin changes or even cardiac arrhythmias. Some patients report “burning sensations” in the chest.

Especially the persistent exhaustion, the so-called fatigue, is more often mentioned in connection with the Post COVID Syndrome: It is already known from other diseases that were accompanied by prolonged intensive medical treatment. The main symptoms are listlessness, sleep disturbances and lack of physical and mental performance.

It is assumed that it is not the virus itself that leads to fatigue syndrome, but inflammatory reactions caused by it. This results in the release of inflammatory substances in the body, which can cause prolonged inflammatory changes in many organs. Although the person is already healthy, inflammation still seems to be smoldering in the body.

To date, little research has been done on fatigue syndrome, so doctors don’t know exactly what is happening in the body and what role Covid-19 plays.

When a post-COVID check-up makes sense

Anyone who still feels very tired and listless after overcoming an illness, or who has other complaints that cannot be attributed to another cause, should first have a check-up with their family doctor. Furthermore, there are already so-called Corona Outpatient Clinics in some places, which are specialized in patients with long-term consequences. These are to be established more widely in the future in order to ensure good care in the future as well.
